Anyone Can Paint
A simple step-by-step method to make a loose, fun acrylic painting working from a photograph. If you haven’t painted before, this is for you. If you’ve painted a lot but feel your paintings are tight, boring and lifeless, this is for you. We will discuss all aspects from picking a subject to hanging your finished painting and everything in between. Several reference photos will be provided, but feel free to bring one in (though I might try to convince you that it won’t make a good painting). I will do a quick demo painting and then help students work through the same subject or a different one. Our focus will be on loosening up and not trying to recreate an image on canvas but to play with paint… which makes much better paintings! We will discuss in very practical and accessible terms the elements that make a great painting… strong compositions with bold shapes, strong value contrast (light vs dark), and lots of paint in rich colors. Be ready to have fun!
Elliot began painting as a child under the direction of his grandmother, a dedicated amateur painter. Through his school years he experimented with various media but it wasn’t until 2007 after a workshop with Canadian painter Brian Simons that Elliot began to seriously develop his craft. Since that time, Elliot has painted prolifically and won awards in shows around the Southeast. Elliot sells his work across the country as one of the most successful artists on Ugallery, the top online gallery in America for emerging artists.
