Pastel Painting Basics for Beginners with Malia Bryngelson
All Materials Provided
The Beginning Pastel Painting class will start by sharing lots of helpful information on the best materials to help artists new to this versatile medium be successful quickly, and most of all, enjoy it! Artists will be able to experiment with different surfaces and the various types of soft pastels to discover which work best for the individual. There will be a demonstration of some underpainting methods and basic pastel application techniques. We will then apply these ideas to work on a class project and your own project as time allows. The workshop will have a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere that focuses on experimentation and problem solving.
- Malia Bryngelson
I create pastel paintings with the goal of bringing the openness and peace of being outdoors.
I feel the medium of pastel is ideal for depicting wonderfully strong sunlight and shadow which I love to paint. The immediacy and feel of drawing combined with the beautiful rich colors of pastels make this my medium of choice.
I have been working exclusively in pastel for the past seven years and have studied extensively from wonderful nationally known pastel artists
It has been my honor to be accepted into two national art shows and have won numerous regional awards as well as awards at the state level of North Carolina Pastel Societies.
My mission as a teaching artist is, first and foremost, to encourage other artists in their art journey! I am passionate about pastel painting and truly enjoy sharing what I have learned with others.
