Open House at Florence Thomas Art School – May 16th

Everyone is invited as Florence re-opens it doors at their new location at 10 S. Jefferson Ave, in downtown West Jefferson on Thursday, May 16th. The days events include a Ribbon Cutting at Noon, Artists’ Demonstrations from 12:30 – 5 pm and an Evening Reception from 5-7 pm. Come and explore our new workshop studio and gallery of Florence Thomas original paintings.

Featured demonstrators include: Watercolor Batik with Sue Boggs, Oil Painting with Lenore De Pree, Oil Painting with Doug Munroe, Watercolor Painting with CoraMae Pipkin, Basket Making with Cathey Purvey, Rug Hooking with Cheryl Roberts, Book Art with Sharon Sharp, Watercolor Painting with Steven Shoemaker, Oil Painting with Susan Van Wyk, Drawing with Robert Way, and Watercolor with Wes Waugh.

Blue Ridge Art Clan Meetings Start this Saturday

Back in the 1970′s, Florence Thomas and her students created The Blue Ridge Art Clan (BRAC) which today is still very active and sponsors educational opportunities for its members by providing workshops, critiques, exhibits, and demonstrations in a variety of media. BRAC members range from beginning to experienced artists—all are welcome to join!

BRAC will begin their 37th regular season with their first meeting this Saturday, March 23 at 9:30am at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church.

Yearly dues are $35 per year and the meetings are held at 9:30 am on the fourth Saturday of each month (March-October) at the Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church (201 S. Jefferson Ave. in West Jefferson) or the Ashe County Library.

We would like to express a sincere THANK YOU to all of you for your wonderful support of the Florence Thomas Art School this last year.

It was a great year for the school – we started a new summer kids’ program that more than doubled participation in our children’s classes, and we held 34 adult workshops that served 160 artists. We are very proud the school was able to provide the resources for so many students to meet and learn more about the arts from their favorite artists.

We were also able to promote Florence Thomas’ work in 10 different exhibits by displaying her original paintings throughout the High Country both locally as well as “off the mountain.”

The Florence Thomas Art School could not accomplish these things without the wonderful support from you. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, and we look forward to an even better 2013!!

Be sure and stop by The Artists’ Theatre in downtown West Jefferson by Dec. 31 and check out the Florence Thomas Exhibit! It’s a ‘Winter Wonderland’ — 29 originals have been put on display showing Florence’s winter scenes of Ashe County! All originals on display are for sale! What a great Christmas gift!

The gala is a celebration of the generosity of our supporters with great food & wine, live music, and an auction of original works donated by our instructors. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a selection of Florence Thomas original paintings.
