GENERAL INFORMATION AND POLICIES

A chap-book was traditionally known as a small and affordable self-published book, whose origins date back to the middle ages. Although chapbooks were historically fitted with paper covers, we will be creating a hardbound book with 60 blank pages and a matching “clamshell” storage box. The text pages will be 4-1/4” by 5-1/2”. Note :Photo of miniature book by Mark Palkovic .

You will learn the basic techniques of traditional hand bookbinding and box making, while creating a unique and elegant book and box set. You will be provided with decorative papers, end sheets, acid-free text pages, linen thread, book cloth, headbands, book board, and adhesive. Various necessary tools and other materials will also be provided.

The blank pages of a book of this size are great for any journal, but could also be printed, enabling you to produce your own story, book of prose, or printed images. The clamshell box is a sturdy case designed to both protect and enhance the presentation of the book. Once the basic techniques of bookbinding and box making are learned, it is a short step to creating any size book and box set.
