2′ x 2′ Quilt Square
“And the yellow sunflowers by the brook, in autumn beauty stood.”
-William Cullen Bryant
Create a Barn Quilt of a very different sort. Renee will walk students step-by-step through creating this charming Sunflower Barn Quilt on 2 x 2 board using exterior latex paint. Use indoors or out. Fun and easy for all levels. There can never be to many sunflowers!
At one time quilts were born of necessity- keeping families warm and comfortable on cold nights. As time passed and more materials were available, the quilts became cherished heirlooms. Barn Quilts are much the same – they are a statement, a symbol of identity, whether you are a traditionalist or prefer a more modern twist.
Wear painting clothes and comfortable shoes for standing! The paint used does not come out of clothes.
- Renee Brooks
Renee spent nearly 17 years living in Winston-Salem, NC. After a family member became quite ill in 2007 she moved back to the beautiful mountains in Ashe County, NC. The Ashe County Arts Council had recently completed the Ashe Art Barn Quilt Project and she fell in love with their vibrancy. Renee, a graphics artist, wanted a small barn quilt to add to the side of a small storage building and when she couldn’t find what she was looking for, she painted her first quilt. The result was amazing, neighbors told friends and friends told neighbors and suddenly she was in business.
