Peyton Kneice has had a lifelong interest in most forms of handwork. She learned how to knit, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, and sew early in life, and spent her elementary and high school years immersed in classes doing many different forms of fine art. She went on to obtain a BFA in Theatrical Design and Production with a focus in Costume Technology from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, which she jokes is basically a BFA in sewing and crafting given that her degree is about the art of creating the costumes that the designer has designed. After college, Peyton spent several years teaching many things in several places, including German at her local Waldorf Elementary School as well as knitting, sewing, and crafting classes for all ages at JoAnn Fabrics. Several years ago she took her first basket weaving class through Florence Art School and this sparked a love of basket weaving that has led to her teaching classes today!
After spending several years doing social justice work and developing her clothing design and alterations skills, Peyton and her family have recently relocated from Jackson, MS to Ashe County so that she can be a professional designer and alterations seamstress with Pretty n Pearls in West Jefferson. She is very excited to be able to continue to teach classes at the Art School.
